Il progetto di cui mi appresto a parlarvi non nasce con la presunzione di voler scalzare nomi importanti della scena Hard Rock/aor ma come spesso accade fa parlare di se attraverso una qualità che talvolta latita in act più quotati. Il pluriaffaccendato Dennis Ward crede nel progetto Panorama e oltre a presenziare come Bassista confeziona “Around The World” in maniera impeccabile. Quando hai un uomo del genere in squadra la partita la porti a casa.

Around The World è un deciso attacco frontale carico di adrenalina e massicce dosi di belle armonie vocali pronte ad essere metabolizzate fin dal primo ascolto; rese ancor più incisive dall’ugola importante di Christian Palin. Le premesse per un ottimo platter ci sono tutte.
Standing My Ground si presenta come un anthem dai connotati epici. Punto di forza naturalmente è sempre il chorus tendente a dilatare una traccia che gira intorno un riffing roccioso su cui si stagliano linee vocali relativamente ricercate. Ancora una volta direi siamo su standard qualitativi sicuramente alti.
The Glory Within al momento è la traccia migliore a mio avviso in quanto vive di più momenti emozionali pur mantenendo le caratteristiche di una produzione calda e granitica. Mi ha colpito ancora una volta la buona ricercatezza delle linee vocali rese ancor più fluide da arrangiamenti che portano il pezzo a vivere di un continuo saliscendi emozionale.
Gates Of Babylon ammicca verso un aor, seppur sempre muscolare. Il tutto suona a meraviglia malgrado non faccia gridare al miracolo compositivo e sia un pelo inferiore alle tracce precedenti. Detto questo gli standard restano decisamente alti.
The Highest Mountain è il primo episodio più delicato. Una power ballad ricca di pathos e dal flavour velatamente epico. Arrangiamenti ricercati confezionano una traccia che non lascia sicuramente gridare al miracolo ma assolutamente godibile.
Jammin In The Jungle a gusto personale l’ho adorata fin dal primo ascolto. Un robusto mix di Hard Rock moderno e blues boogie che riuscirà a smuovere anche l’ascoltatore più freddo e misurato. Uno di quei pezzi dove ritrovi vagonate di energia positiva.
One For All altro mid tempo dove la sperimentazione più moderna riesce a fare capolino e fondersi con ottima perizia a riff incisivi e chorus aperti sempre di stampo epico. Un platter che sembra avere pochissimi punti deboli. Uno di quei progetti come già anticipato non nasce probabilmente sotto le luci dei riflettori e come spesso accade invece risulta vincente.
The Other Side è monolitica, complice un riffing chiuso che si sposa come meglio non potrebbe con un cantato aspro anche se pur sempre capace di cesellare pregevoli linee vocali. Sto cercando delle pecche per i lettori più intransigenti desiderosi di trovare il pelo nell’uovo; mi spiace ma al momento più luci che ombre.
Heart Has Been Broken strizza l’occhio a un più leggerino aor radiofonico. Notevole il lavoro fatto sul break centrale dalle chitarre che provano a dilatare il pezzo rendendolo sicuramente meno prevedibile, prima di lanciarsi nell’ultimo bellissimo chorus.
Shout It Out è più vicino a uno sleazy melodico. Il neo che stavo trovando in un lavoro che era quasi impeccabile? Forse. Nel senso che il valore dei pezzi precedenti è talmente alto, da porre la traccia in questione un gradino sotto. Fermo restando che in un disco più scialbo avrebbe valutazione più enfatizzata.
World On Fire in chiusura è l’ultima bordata e poco aggiunge a quanto già detto. La traccia in più che avrei evitato. Discorso simile per quanto detto sopra. Buon pezzo, nulla di trascendentale ma che risulterebbe importante in contesto anonimo.

IN CONCLUSIONE

Un lavoro che mi sento di promuovere non a pieni voti ma ci siamo andati veramente molto vicino. Belle melodie, produzione importante e omogenea fra un pezzo e l’altro sono peculiarità oggettivamente riscontrabili; dunque senza remore, darei una possibilità a questo “Around The World”.

Si je vous parle d’un groupe cosmopolite, dont la production du premier album a été signée par Dennis Ward (UNISONIC, PINK CREAM 69) et l’artwork soigné par Stan W. Decker (MASTERPLAN, VANDEN PLAS, RESURRECTION KINGS et STRYPER), vous aurez peut-être une petite idée de ce qui vous attend…Et si d’aventure, vous laissiez votre esprit vagabonder du côté d’un Hard Rock à tendance Heavy mélodique et léché, laissez-le où il est, puisqu’il est au parfait endroit pour imaginer ce qui vous attend en termes artistiques. L’inconnu reste encore une fois la qualité du produit en question, et à celles que vous pourriez vous poser, répondez y par une confiance aveugle, puisque le premier LP des PANORAMA en offre un tellement vaste, luxuriant et riche, qu’on se demande encore pourquoi la concurrence s’obstine à tenter de se hisser à leur niveau. Je ne vais pas le cacher, cet Around The World a été ma révélation sur le chemin de Damas de janvier, tant son rendement est impressionnant en tous secteurs, alors même qu’il se situe dans une veine plus classique que les premières répétitions de GOTTHARD, et qu’il n’éclipse pas le soleil de HARDLINE derrière ses persiennes à peine tirées. Pourtant, on nage en pleine euphorie à l’écoute des onze pistes de ce premier effort, qui aura demandé trois ans de gestation, et dont les origines ne sont pas banales pour autant. Comme quoi, les belles histoires surgissent souvent de nulle part…

Au départ de cette aventure, un homme, Sammy Lasagni (GODS OF SILENCE, ex-KIRK, ex-GODIVA), guitariste suisse qui fait la rencontre de Christian Palin, chanteur uruguayen (RANDOM EYES, ex-ADAGIO), lors d’une tournée en commun. L’alchimie entre les deux hommes est immédiatement patente, et ils décident très logiquement de faire un peu de musique ensemble à l’avenir…Cet avenir les fera patienter jusqu’en 2015, et un coup de fil qui se voudra détonateur tant attendu, qui signifiera le début d’une collaboration avec le producteur Dennis Ward. Quelques ajustements de line-up plus tard, avec l’adjonction au duo du guitariste finlandais Ben Varon (AMORAL, GREASE HELMET), et du batteur suisse Phillipp Eichenberger (GODS OF SILENCE, ex-KIRK), et une prise en charge de la basse par Ward lui-même, et le répertoire commença à s’étoffer, au point d’enfin envisager la sortie d’un premier album, en forme de témoignage des années passées…

Cet album, cet Around The World qui je l’espère, animera vos jours et vos nuits, est un modèle du genre, une véritable perfection d’orfèvres qui témoigne du bagage musical de ces instrumentistes qui connaissent leur boulot, mais qui ont su garder suffisamment de dynamisme pour passer pour de petits jeunots. Le niveau est bien sûr incroyablement relevé, avec des guitaristes complémentaires et héroïques, un chanteur au timbre de fer mais aux intonations de velours, et une rythmique soudée mais souple, qui permet toutes les audaces de composition, sans tomber dans la démonstration, mais c’est surtout la flamboyance et la pertinence des chansons qui frappent l’esprit, spécialement lorsqu’on se rend compte qu’aucun filler ne vient perturber le déroulé en comblant des ratés que l’on aurait laissé passer. Chaque titre a sa raison d’être, et surtout, développe d’incroyables arguments puissants et mélodiques qui laissent le cœur chancelant, un peu comme si QUEENSRYCHE, GOTTHARD, HARDLINE, PINK CREAM 69, STRYPER et RAINTIMES se rejoignaient autour d’un projet en commun, histoire d’enregistrer l’album parfait servant de mètre-étalon aux générations futures. Car outre leur côté cosmopolite prononcé, les membres de PANORAMA ajoutent tous leur pierre de culture à l’édifice, et ramènent de leurs aventures passées de quoi alimenter le bestiaire d’un Hard Rock racé, et d’un Heavy Metal débridé, sans pour autant sombrer dans les clichés ridicules et pathétique d’un recyclage éhonté. De la classe donc, une brillance et un panache, pour quarante-quatre minutes de démonstration bluffante, qui passe par tous les rythmes et toutes les ambiances.

Nous avons donc droit à un festival de démonstration de facilité, passant au gré des interventions d’un Heavy Metal torride à un AOR de bon ton, sans que l’un ou l’autre ne paraisse incongru. Et si l’attaque « Around The World » entame les hostilités de son up tempo bien enlevé, c’est pour mieux nous embarquer, un peu comme si Geoff Tate se retrouvait au volant d’une Lamborghini rutilante et surgonflée, dévalant les autoroutes américaines avec un hymne coincé entre les oreilles. Ça claque, ça explose à chaque sillon, et la voix incroyablement chaude de Christian nous caresse les tympans, pour mieux nous ébouriffer l’instant suivant, s’unissant à des chœurs pertinents pour un refrain d’or et d’argent. Mais comme les segments se suivent et ne se ressemblent pas, c’est tout de suite après que le Heavy redevient roi, via un « Standing My Ground » symptomatique de l’école italienne de Frontiers, tout autant qu’au mordant d’un QUEENSRYCHE synthétisé de quelques molécules CRIMSON GLORY et GOTTHARD, pour une déferlante de puissance nous faisant surfer sur le toit du monde. Et c’est de ce point de vue global que les musiciens nous observent, certains de leur potentiel, mais restant humbles pour en admirer les conséquences. Et alors que « The Glory Within » joue l’énergie et la nuance, « Gates Of Babylon » lâche encore une fois un riff tranchant, symptomatique des glorieuses 80’s, juste avant que la superbe ballade « The Highest Mountain » et son discret clavier en contrepoint ne joue la corde sensible, sans tomber dans le ravin de la mièvrerie. Mais l’humour et la relâche n’en sont pas pour autant aux abonnés absents, et le roublard ternaire « Jammin In The Jungle » de nous rappeler aux meilleurs évangiles de STRYPER, partageant la chaire avec les ZZ TOP ou les GREAT WHITE. « One For All », s’il ne se cale pas sur la ligne du parti de RAVEN n’en dément toutefois pas l’énergie, et nous séduit de son amalgame de Rock et de Synthwave, pour un mélange pas si contre nature, qui une fois encore nous renvoie au passé de notre propre futur.

Mais à vrai dire, tout est tellement bien agencé et en même temps libre sur ce premier album, que chaque exemple que je pourrais utiliser serait apte à vous convaincre…Car entre la mélodie magique de « The Other Side », le binaire plombé mais radiophonique de « Heart Has Been Broken », la hargne véloce de « Shout It Out », et l’explosion nucléaire de « World On Fire », le bilan est exhaustif, et la démonstration se transforme en imposition, et apposition, du talent de ces musiciens hors norme sur votre petit cœur de rockeur, qui n’a pas fini de palpiter, mais aussi de vibrer au rythme et mélodies de ces chansons qui ne font pas que frôler la perfection. Elles l’atteignent, et de fait, Around The World aussi, d’où un jugement définitif, et la première note maximale accordée de ma courte carrière chez Metalnews.fr…Et si vous connaissez mes inclinaisons en termes de Hard n’Heavy mélodique affiné, vous savez ce que tout ça veut dire. 2018 va être une rude année pour tous ceux désirant s’imposer sur ce terrain, puisque les PANORAMA ont imposé le leur. Et il est aussi imposant que magnifique s’entend. Alors bonne chance aux concurrents.

Einmal mehr ertönt der Newcomer Alarm in unserer Rock-Garage. PANORAMA machen sich auf die Heavy Rock Welt im Sturm zu erobern und würzen dies mit einem gehörigen Schuss AOR!
Bei genauem hinsehen, stellt man aber fest das die hier beteiligten Musiker definitiv keine Grünschnäbel mehr sind! Denn wir hätten hier Christian Palin (RANDOM EYES, Ex ADAGIO) am Mikro, Dennis Ward (PINK CREAM 69, UNISONIC) am Bass, Sammy Lasagni (GODS OF SILENCE, Ex KIRK) sowie Ben Varon (AMORAL) an der Gitarre und Philipp Eichenberger (GODS OF SILENCE, Ex KIRK) hinter der Schießbude.
Ordentlich musikalische Erfahrung also die uns hier entgegenschlägt, da kann man sich schon mal auf ein sehr ordentliches Debütalbum, welches übrigens den Namen „Around the World“ trägt, einstellen!
Der Opener und Titeltrack „Around the World“ gibt dann auch direkt die qualitativ hochwertige Marschrichtung vor. Ordentlich druckvoll und mit einer guten Mischung aus AOR und Rock inklusive schmissigen Chorus bohrt sich die Nummer direkt in die Gehörgänge. Ein sehr überzeugender Start also!
Wesentlich erdiger, aber qualitativ genauso überzeugend und einprägend kommt dann auch das nachfolgende „Standing my Ground“ aus den Boxen geschossen bevor es mit „The Glory within“ zum ersten Mal so richtig eher in die Heavy Rock/Melodic Metalschiene geht. Der Song hat einen tollen epischen Touch, der schön hervorsticht.
„Gates of Babylon“ ist dann wieder eher ein metallischer Song, bevor es mit „The Hightest Mountain“ ruhiger wird.
Ihr vermisst mehr Rock, kein Problem mit dem anschließenden „Jamming in the Jungle“ werdet ihr bestens bedient und hier hört man sogar ein wenig DEF LEPPARD Feeling heraus!
Der nächste richtige Ohrwurm wird uns dann mit dem, wieder mehr metallisch tönenden, „The other Side“ geboten. Hier kann man wieder richtig schön mitbangen und das Stück geht wunderbar in die Gehörgänge.
Das letzte Drittel der Scheibe bietet uns dann wieder eine bunte Mischung aus AOR, Rock und Metal und besonders das knackige „Shout it Out“ sticht hier etwas hervor.

Anspieltipps:

Mit “Around the World”, “Standing my Ground”, “The Glory within”, “The other Side” und “Shout it Out” solltet ihr bestens bedient sein.

Fazit :

Wie schon vermutet erwartet uns mit dem ersten Diskus von PANORAMA ein sehr ordentliches Debüt welches nur so von erstklassigen Songs strotzt! Cruisen mit dem Cabrio ist aktuell aufgrund der Temperaturen nicht möglich, aber mit “Around the World” kann man mit Sicherheit einige rockige Autofahrten erleben. Ordentlich aufdrehen damit die anderen auch was von diesem tollen Debütalbum mitbekommen!

First of all, it's apparent that these guys are natural born Rockers! This resulted in
them creating an album full of fresh ideas, as well amazing hard rock sound that will lift
your mood up and make your neck hurt from all the headbanging, in case that you listen
to it live! (laughs!)

As "Around the World" begins, so does the headbanging as you listen to the first notes
of the "dirty" guitars! Add the "hoarse" vocals into the mix, alongside the melodic
rhythm, and you'll see what I'm talking about! Coming right up is "Standing My Ground",
with the same "dirty" rock sound, only more melodic, with beautiful crystal-clear vocals
and a fantastic chorus! These two tracks provided an excellent start for the album!

After that, we move on to calmer rhythms, as the album's first ballad is coming up, called
"The Glory Within". Simply close your eyes and let this track take you on a 'trip' through
its magical world!

Equally high-quality hard rock tracks are the upcoming ones,"Gates of Babylon", "The Highest Mountain",
"Jammin in the Jungle", "One for All", "The Other Side" and "Heart Has Been Broken".

Lastly, we have "Shout It Out" and "World on Fire" closing the album melodically and
rhythmically, with the first winning the 'battle' due to its wonderful rhythm.

In summary, these guys have given us an amazing album, which is also their debut,
making it all the more important. Excellent, well-written compositions and fantastically
performed tracks.
As for the score, I can't give it anything less than excellent, as such, I rate it 10/10!

On aika esitellä bändi. Bassossa Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69, Gus G, Unisonic), äänessä Christian Palin (Random Eyes, Adagio), kuusikielisiä kurittavat Sammy Lasagni (Gods of Silence, Kirk, Godiva) ja Ben Varon (Amoral, Grease Helmet). Rumpuja takoo Philipp Eichenberger (Gods of Silence, Kirk). Kokemusta siis löytyy, mutta löytyykö näkemystä?

Panorama perustettiin vuonna 2015. Tuolloin Sammy ja Christian alkoivat säveltää kimpassa. Around The World on monikansallisen joukon debyytti. Nimikappale pantiin keihäänkärjeksi. Nopeatempoinen sävellys, jota maustaa tyyliin sopiva kitarasoolo. Tuomitsen sooloa edeltävän yleisönhuudatuksen turhaksi. Alku on silti erittäin lupaava.

The Glory Within kuulostaa sietämättömän tutulta, mutten saa päähäni, minkä tai mitä se tuo mieleen? Kollegan arvio avaa lukon. Kitaramelodiassa on tosiaan enemmän kuin häivähdys Empire-kauden Queensrÿcheä. Hieno oivallus sekä bändiltä että kriitikolta.

Jammin In The Jungle saa kyseenalaisen kunnian olla albumin heikoin raita. Se on jonkinmoinen yritys letkeäksi jamitteluksi. Ei toimi. Ongelmana lienee sällien menneisyys ja sen myötä selkäytimeen iskostunut virtuoosimainen rutiini. Kasarihenkinen hupailu vaatii rennompaa otetta tai huonompaa soittotaitoa. Kaljoittelu treenikämpällä auttaisi asiaa?

Seuraavaa kappale paikkaa sujuvasti pienen kauneusvirheen. Koskettimet keventävät kitaroiden raskautta. Liidikitaran vetämä riffi on hilpeä. The Other Side sen sijaan räjäyttää potin. Jumalauta mikä revitys! Raskautta, melodisuutta ja sopivasti idioottivarmaa kertosäettä. Yksin tämä kappale nostaa muutenkin hyvän levyn arvosanaa puolikkaalla. Näitä pari lisää ja meillä olisi soittimessa yhdeksikön levy.

Heart Has Been Broken ei ole juuri huonompi. Ensimmäiset tahdit palauttavat äänikuvaan Ozzyn laulusoundin ja Zakk Wylden viljelemät huiluäänet. Kertosäe muuttaa tunnelmaa ja biisi alkaa toimia omillaan. Viimeistään tässä kohden tajuaa, että kitarakaksikko soittaa todella hyvin yhteen. Tuskin ovat viettäneet nuoruuttaan samalla treenikämpällä, joten kyse on silkasta ammattitaidosta, tuottajan tai soittajien.

Dennis Wardin kädenjälki kuuluu muussakin kuin bassolinjoissa. Hän on tuottanut, miksannut ja masteroinut albumin, vaan ei sentään piirtänyt hienoa kantta. Siitä kunnia Stan W. Deckerille, joka on suunnittelut kannen muun muassa Monumentin Hair of the Dog -levyyn. Joko muuten mainitsin, että Christian Palin on melkoinen peto solistiksi? Kyllä lähtee.

Eine internationale Truppe hat sich da unter dem Namen PANORAMA zusammengefunden. Zwei Schweizer, ein Ami, ein Finne und ein in Uruguay geborener Sänger wollen mit ihrem Debüt „Around The World“ das Genre des Melodic Rock aufmischen.
Die Chancen dafür stehen gar nicht mal so schlecht, denn hier sind durchaus Songs zu hören, bei denen man in jedem Riff den Spaß der Musiker an ihrer Musik hört. Das fängt bereits mit dem Opener und Titeltrack an, ein Rocker, der sofort ins Ohr geht und Hitpotenzial hat. Von diesem Kaliber hat man vier oder fünf am Start und auch wenn die anderen Nummern vielleicht etwas darunter anzusiedeln sind, schmälert das den guten Gesamteindruck kaum.
PANORAMA ist für keinen der Herren die erste Band und so kann es nicht überraschen, dass hier auch handwerklich nichts anbrennt. Das reicht von der Instrumentalfraktion um die beiden Gitarristen SAMMY LASAGNI bzw. BEN VARON und Drummer PHILIPP EICHENBERGER über den wirklich guten Sänger CHRISTIAN PALIN bis zu Bassist DENNIS WARD, der auch für die erstklassige Produktion verantwortlich zeichnet.

Vielleicht sind PANORAMA noch nicht ganz auf eine Stufe mit GOTTHARD und SHAKRA zu stellen aber auf jeden Fall haben sie mit diesem Debüt gezeigt, dass man mit ihnen rechnen muss.

PANORAMA hängt die Messlatte im Jahr 2018 für nachfolgende Hard-Rock-Veröffentlichungen erschreckend hoch.

PANORAMA liefert mit "Around The World" die passende Medizin für alle Hard Rock Fans gegen die Winterdepression. Das Beste daran? Das Ganze ist völlig rezeptfrei und ohne ärztliche Verordnung beim Plattenhändler eures Vertrauens erhältlich. Das Quintett kredenzt seiner Hörerschaft dabei insgesamt elf großartig arrangierte Songperlen über 45 Minuten Spielzeit verteilt und demonstriert dabei auf eindrucksvollste Art und Weise ihr außergewöhnliches Gespür für packende Melodien und großartige Refrains. Abgerundet wird dieses musikalische Kleinod mit dem wunderschönen Artwork von Stan W. Decker (MASTERPLAN, STRYPER), das auf den ersten Blick vielleicht einen etwas belanglosen Eindruck erwecken könnte, jedoch bei längerer, intensiverer Betrachtung definitiv zum Nachdenken animiert. Glücklicherweise erscheint von "Around The World" auch eine limitierte schwarz/silber Vinyl-Edition, welche aufgrund besagten Covers schon alleine eine Vinyl-Anschaffung bzw. -Veröffentlichung rechtfertigt.

Hinter PANORAMA steckt der südamerikanische Sänger Christian Palin (Ex-ADAGIO, RANDOM EYES) und der aus der Schweiz stammende Gitarrist Sammy Lasagni (GODS OF SILENCE, Ex-KIRK, Ex-GODIVA). Bei einer gemeinsamen Tour ihrer beiden Vorgängerbands ADAGIO und GODIVA im Jahre 2008 lernten die beiden sich kennen und schätzen. Die Chemie zwischen ihnen stimmte von Beginn an und sowohl ihre persönlichen als auch musikalischen Vorlieben und Einflüssen lagen auf derselben Wellenlänge. So reifte schnell der Plan einer gemeinsamen Zusammenarbeit. Bis es jedoch zur geplanten Kooperation im Jahre 2015 kommen sollte, zogen aus unterschiedlichen Gründen dann doch noch ein paar Jahre ins Land. Betrachtet man das fertige Produkt in seiner Gänze, muss man zweifellos anerkennen, dass sich die lange Wartezeit dabei mehr als gelohnt hat. In relativ kurzer Zeit schrieben die beiden Vollblutmusiker insgesamt 15 Stücke, von denen die besten 11 ihren Weg auf das finale Album fanden. Komplettiert wird die internationale Truppe dabei vom finnischen Gitarristen Ben Varon (AMORAL, GREASE HELMET), dem schweizerischen Drummer Philipp Eichenberger (GODS OF SILENCE, Ex-Kirk) und last, but not least, dem wohl prominentesten Namen in ihren Reihen, Dennis Ward (UNISONIC, PINK CREAM 69, KHYMERA). Auf "Around The World" glänzt dieser nicht nur in seiner Rolle als Bassist, sondern entpuppt sich darüber hinaus noch als perfekte Wahl für Mix, Mastering und Produktion.

Der Deutschamerikaner darf sich langsam aber sicher ernsthafte Gedanken darüber machen, seinen Namen als Markenzeichen für qualitätsbewussten AOR, Melodic Metal bzw. Hard Rock patentieren zu lassen. Egal, ob er mit seiner alten Langzeitliebe PINK CREAM 69, der All-Star-Combo UNISONIC oder KHYMERA musiziert, bei denen er zudem sein außergewöhnliches Gesangstalent zur Schau stellt, kommt am Ende des Tages immer ein hohes Maß an musikalischer Qualität heraus. Hard-Rock-Anhänger können sich bei Veröffentlichungen mit seiner Beteiligung mittlerweile blind darauf verlassen, dass Qualität drin ist, wo Ward draufsteht.

PANORAMA gelingt mit ihrem Erstling das außergewöhnliche Kunststück, über das gesamte Album keinerlei Qualitätseinbrüche zu erleiden. Die Scheibe lässt sich äußerst homogen durchhören und lädt dabei immer wieder zum gepflegten Mitwippen und Mitsingen ein. Rockende Gitarren und knackige Drums stehen bei den Hard-Rock-Kompositionen definitiv im Vordergrund und werden durch gezielt eingesetzte Keyboards nur punktuell und niemals zu dominant unterstützt. Mit dem flotten Opener und Titeltrack 'Around The World' gelingt der Band sogleich ein Traumstart nach Maß, zieht den Hörer mit seinem tollen Refrain direkt in seinen Bann und gibt damit die weitere musikalische Ausrichtung des Albums vor. Mit 'Gates Of Babylon', 'The Other Side' oder dem etwas aus der Reihe fallenden 'Jammin In The Jungle' gibt es einen Höhepunkt nach dem anderen zu bewundern. Bei dem großartigen 'Standing My Ground' wird man unweigerlich an die letzten Großtaten von PINK CREAM 69 erinnert und auch Sänger Christian verfügt zudem über einen deutlichen David Readman Einfluss, intoniert seine Songs dabei aber etwas weniger blueslastig, sondern wesentlich rockiger als dieser. Auch die Gitarrenharmonien erinnern hin und wieder an die der Pinkies, was hier aber ausdrücklich als Kompliment gemeint ist. Mit 'The Highest Mountain' gelingt ihnen noch eine packende Halbballade, die einem trotz der klirrenden Temperaturen sofort das Herz erwärmt. Am Ende des Albums steht mit 'World On Fire' der perfekte Rausschmeißer, der bei mir das sofortige Bedürfnis weckt, die Scheibe direkt nochmal von vorne durchzuhören.

Unterm Strich setzt PANORAMA mit "Around The World" ein erstes ganz dickes musikalisches Ausrufezeichen im noch jungen Jahr 2018 und hängt dabei ganz nebenbei die Messlatte für nachfolgende Genre-Veröffentlichungen bereits erschreckend hoch. Ein Album, das wirklich in keiner ernstzunehmenden Hard-Rock-Sammlung fehlen darf. Well done.

Metal Factory ist in Zusammenhang mit meiner Wenigkeit exklusiv das erste Szene-Medium, das bereits letztes Jahr von dieser neuen Band um die Ex-Kirk und Gods Of Silence Recken Sammy Lasagni (g/v) und Philipp Eichenberger (d) Kenntnis erhielt! Panorama heisst die Truppe und mit dabei sind noch Frontmann Christian Palin (Randon Eyes, Ex-Adagio), Gitarrist Ben Varon (Amoral, Ex-Grease Helmet) und Producer-Ass wie Bassist Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69, Unisonic und noch vieles mehr!). Letzterer ist schon mal Garant für einen Hammer-Sound, und wenn er sich auch kompositorisch einbringt, das Sahnehäubchen schlechthin. Im Wissen darum, dass die Welt nicht zwingend auf die 5897-ste Hardrock-Combo wartet, muss Aussergewöhnliches geleistet werden, und das bietet das Debüt-Album «Around The World» vom ersten Ton des Titeltracks und Openers an. Dass das Ganze eine spürbare Schlagseite hin zu Pink Cream 69 aufweist, ist nicht von der Hand zu weisen, aber Christian Palin klingt vom Timbre her schon etwas anders als David Readman. Für mich klingts erstmal wie eine Mischung aus einer härteren Version von Danger Danger und The Magnificent. «Standing My Ground» lässt die frühen Voodoo Circle und noch etwas Godiva (Sammy's Ex-Band) in Erinnerung rufen, während «The Glory Within» bei Queensrÿche fischt, nicht zuletzt wegen dem grundsätzlich herrlich bollernden Bass von Dennis. Spätestens an dieser Stelle muss auch der letzte Rock-Mohikaner realisiert haben, wie geil der Gesang von Christian klingt. Der begabte Knabe besitzt mitunter eine glockenhelle Hammerstimme, und genau das ist nötig, um in dieser Ecke bestehen zu können. Dass bei «Gates Of Babylon» letztlich auch noch Kirk durchschimmern, zaubert dem Rezensenten sogleich ein Lächeln auf das Gesicht. Die zahlreichen Vergleiche zu anderen Bands können die offensichtliche Eigenständigkeit von Panorama jedoch nicht untergraben, obwohl auch sie nur mit Wasser kochen. Dieses ist aber ziemlich heiss und salzig zugleich, denn die griffigen Songs überzeugen instrumental durchgehend und gewinnen mit jedem Umlauf an Kontur. Was jetzt noch fehlt, ist der obligate Killer-Track, der einen sogleich an den Eiern packt oder den Schritt feucht werden lässt! Und? Es gibt sogar mehr als einen, nämlich «The Other Side» und «Shout It Loud»! Da «The Highest Mountain» "nur" eine Halbballade ist, die Jon Bon Jovi nie geschrieben hat, fehlt zum Abrunden eigentlich nur eine klassische Zucker-Ballade. Genau das wird aber dem einen oder anderen Genre-Fan ziemlich egal sein, der die Grundhärte von «Around The World» mag. Und live? Oh ja, hoffentlich bald!

The history of Panorama, an international rock band, began with the providential meeting between Swiss guitarist Sammy Lasagni (Gods of Silence, Kirk, Godiva) and Uruguay born singer Christian Palin (Random Eyes, Adagio), when Godiva was supporting Adagio on tour. A musical kinship was found, but would not develop until seven years later and Panorama was born. The duo presented their music to the legendary producer Dennis Ward who agreed to handle every facet of production and also play bass for the band. The rest of Panorama is filled out by Ben Varon (Amoral, Grease Helmet) on guitars and Philipp Eichenberger (Gods of Silence, Kirk) on drums.

There's no mystery to the Panorama sound. Quite simply it's classic melodic hard rock, with a metal edge, and then carefully delivered in an AOR wrapper. You know the familiar ingredients: twin guitar harmony which turn to thrilling solos, clean and melodic lead vocals, big beat and groove from the rhythm section, a touch of synths, and catchy hooks in melodies, refrains, and song arrangements. Yet, with these familiar characteristics, I might suggest that the metal edge is rather prominent. The riffs are sharp, the solos more rabid, and the bottom end heavier. Additionally, while having some range, vocalist Palin can have forceful presence, sometimes slightly screamo.

As for the songs, metal-edged rockers abound, notable with Around The World, Stand My Ground, the fast and heavy One For All, or the riff busting The Other Side. Alternatively, something like Jammin In The Jungle turns more on a lively rock beat and groove. Similar is Shout It Out, but the beat is twisted with some speed, and the song hopes to rely on the chorus for its impact. Think Stand Up (And Shout) from DIO. Conversely, Panorama attempts something of an anthem or ballad with the somewhat lighter The Highest Mountain, a mixture of symphonic synths and AOR accessibility. Fundamentally, Around The World is a fine first start for Panorama, delivering quintessential, if not predictable, European classic melodic hard rock with a metal edge. Recommended.

Aptly named as a band given the members come a range of countries like Finland, Switzerland and the US – not to mention the title of this stunning debut – Panorama is Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69, Gus G, Unisonic) on bass/producer, Christian Palin (Random Eyes, ex Adagio) on vocals, Sammy Lasagni (Gods of Silence, ex Kirk, ex Godiva) and Ben Varon (Amoral, ex Grease Helmet) on guitars, and Philipp Eichenberger (Gods of Silence, ex Kirk) on drums! Originally conceived in 2008 when Palin met Lasagni when their bands toured together, it would not be until 2015 when the two connected one cold winter’s day and committed themselves to collaborate – the outcome of which are the stunning songs making up “Around The World”. Completing the circle was Dennis Ward, who so impressed with the quality of the material, not only agreed to produce the album but also play bass! What’s truly outstanding about this veteran band is just the sheer range of styles they take in, from the title track opener which is essentially 80s AOR to follow up ‘Stand My Ground’, which is much heavier but doesn’t lose sight of those heart grabbing melodies and soothing harmonies in a more 90s melodic hard rock style reminiscent of Gotthard. On ‘Gates Of Babylon’, Palin’s suave highs and the flashy techno riffing made me think of Tate era Queensryche while on ‘The Highest Mountain’ the ultra catchy singalong harmonies brought back memories of the Scorpions at their most melodic, along with some heart breaking keys and of course, a tear jerky solo. In complete contrast however, was the sassy slide riffing street rock of ‘Jammin In The Jungle’ with again, a monster hook and ultra catchy chorus that just had me boogin’ right along to its massive amounts of bad ass attitude! As for dual guitar melodies, then check out ‘All For One’ which has Lasagni and Varon all over it like a Euro version of GnR – awesome – along with those soaring vocal harmonies and Palin’s own soul resonating across the song. Slowing things down but definitely upping the heaviness is ‘The Other Side’ but amazingly, despite Philipp Eichenberger’s hard drumming, the band doesn’t lose sight of those catchy melodies be it vocally or again in those impressive guitars. Ending with the double bass drumming driven ‘World On Fire’ it’s definitely metal but thanks once again to the guitar melodies, the perfect synch has been found between the furious fire and cool ice that this amazing collaboration bring together. Let’s hope this isn’t a one off!

Pues empezamos el año de forma contundente… esto es como en vez de uvas para celebrar el nuevo año, decides comer doce pimientos tipo cayena… desde luego la fuerza está asegurada. No cabe duda que este disco está sobrealimentado, suena con una potencia tremenda, y además con unas gotas de melódico, coros y el buen hacer del gran bajista y productor Denis Ward. Acaba de lanzar Pink Cream 69 y de nuevo a mediados de enero presenta esta joya en forma de disco realmente entretenido de escuchar.

Después de la primera escucha, tiendo a pensar que son una especie de Pink Cream 2.0, y no es que el vocalista Cristian Palin tenga algo que ver con David Readman, pero hay que reconocer que la mano de Dennis Ward es demasiado alargada. Empezamos a entender el sonido de Pink Cream 69, en el que Dennis, para ser solo el bajista del grupo, además de productor, tiene más influencia de la que podíamos sospechar. Y no me parece mal. Después de analizar el último de Pink Cream 69, o el de Phantom V, creo que este casi me gusta tanto como los dos anteriores. El disco es de notable y no deberías dejar de escucharlo si te gusta el Hard melódico hecho con clase y categoría.

El disco se titula Around the world porque es el mejor tema del CD. No sé si tiene algo que ver esto, pero es que es el mejor. A la potencia descomunal que destila el tema, hay que disfrutar de arreglos en segundo plano de guitarras y teclados que van acompañando la voz de Cristian para disfrute de la comunidad rockera. Mención especial a la potencia vocal de Mr. Palin que es asombrosa. Standing my ground sigue con un sonido grave, pesado, como la mejor época de los Black Sabbath, cuando Dio grabó dos discos para la historia, sin contar el directo. Buenos coros para arropar la descarada voz del vocalista. The glory within tiene un sonido algo menos pesado, donde se desenvuelve el territorios más melódicos. Otra vez buenos coros, trabajo sin duda a cargo del señor Ward, demostrando el tremendo catálogo de registros del grupo.

Gates of babylon tiene un estupendo comienzo de guitarras que habría firmado cualquier bestia que ha tenido Ozzy en cualquiera de sus épocas, de hecho el pre estribillo destila ese sonido del genial vocalista de sus discos con Zakk Wilde. Hasta el solo de guitarra parece homenajear ese sonido inconfundible. The highest mountain es un medio tiempo servido al estilo medieval que tenían los lejanos cantos de los inmortales Blind Guardian y semejantes que en ocasiones parecen marchas militares pertenecientes a los tiempos de las Leyendas de la Dragonlance. Muy buen tema, que no escondo decir que suelo poner varias veces porque oírlo solo una vez me suele parecer insuficiente. Jammin in the jungle podría haberla firmado los chicos de Edguy, en el que Tobías Sammet miraría a la cámara con esa cara de vacilón que pone algunas veces. Buenos coros y estribillos de viejo sabor añejo centroeuropeo. En directo debería funcionar a la perfección con su are you ready?

One for all es algo más que una simple canción, parece como dice su título, el tema que escribes después de ver una película de los 3 mosqueteros, o alguna americanada donde siempre ganan ellos. Me llama la atención el solo de guitarra con mucha clase, sin virtuosismo pero bien hecho. The other side es potencia descomunal debido a la distorsión elegida para dar fuerza a un tema excelentemente cantado por Cristian Palin, un tipo que deberías tener en cuenta para futuros trabajos, ya que a su banda habitual Adagio no la sigo mucho, culpa mía sin duda. Tema para escuchar a un volumen desagradablemente alto. Suena a algo parecido a acercarte al motor de un F-14 a punto de despegar.

Heart has been broken es definitivamente cualquier tema del disco Ozzmosis que se quedaría sin grabar, al menos en los comienzos… el guitarrista se empeña en usar ese sonido Zakk en segundo plano detrás del vocalista… luego el estribillo es demasiado melódico para interesar a Ozzy… podría ahogarse y no le interesa después del episodio del murciélago en directo… Buen tema sin duda, que ha conseguido captar toda mi atención.

Shout it out tema muy dinámico, muy “rápido”, se te pasa en un suspiro, algo así como comerte una ostra que pasa de la concha a tu estomago en fracciones de segundo… otra vez adornos en segundo plano, seña de identidad de la banda, que yo personalmente valoro. Y para cerrar el disco World on fire que me parece de los más flojos del disco, pero es que mantener el listón alto durante un disco entero solo está al alcance de los elegidos. Aun así, es un muy buen disco para aquellos que aman el sonido Pink Cream, Gotthard, los últimos Bonfire etc. Muy recomendable…

(8/10) Panorama is a quite new metal outfit with a history that takes us back into 2008, Swiss guitarist Sammy Lasagni met Adagio frontman Christian Palin on tour. Already then the two musicians found some solid ground when it comes to music. The guys stayed in touch for many years before 2015 marked a turning point. The duo began to write songs which they planned to release on a debut. For recording the tunes the duo contacted no less than Dennis Ward who was impressed by what he got to hear. This led to Ward producing Panorama’s debut but also playing bass on the album. The line-up was complete by drummer Philipp Eichenberger and Finnish guitar player Ben Varon. Panorama was born and ready to rock.

It was this quintet that recorded „Around the World“ - Panorama‘s debut. What you get with this record are 44 minutes of finest melodic rock/metal, empowered by an excellent sound. The songs on this longplayer have in common that they are easy approachable and it‘s the hooks doing a perfect job. But instead of being a sugar sweet rock album this one has enough of a punch to also convince metal heads with a demand for heavier riffs.

While tracks like the opener „Around the World“ partly reminds of bands like Gotthard it‘s the more metallic ones that show the entire width of Panorama. Take „The Glory Within“. More than once I had to think about Queensryche‘s „Empire“ while listening to the guitar lines. And even having these cross references embedded, the song is not copying the sound of Seattle‘s finest. It‘s a melodic metal song the Panaorma-way that gets out of the boxes more than well.

Panorama is a band that‘s definitely worth to have on the list. These guys have quite some potential and let‘s see if the debut is more than just a flash in the pan.

Panorama is a new and, believe me, exciting melodic hard rock band that consists of Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69, Gus G, Unisonic) on bass/producer, Christian Palin (Random Eyes, ex Adagio) on vocals, Sammy Lasagni (Gods of Silence, ex Kirk, ex Godiva) on Guitars, Ben Varon (Amoral, ex Grease Helmet) on Guitars and Philipp Eichenberger (Gods of Silence, ex Kirk) on drums.

Pretty impressive line-up, if you ask me! "Around The World" is entitled the band's debut album and it's a damn great one. Of course, the Pink Cream 69 influences are everywhere in this album but that's not a bad thing at all. Christian Palin, who is well-known from his work with the melodic progsters Adagio and Random Eyes, has an amazing voice that reminds a bit of David Readman. His vocals are really top notch here and truly takes the whole result into a higher level.

The musicianship is tight as hell and the guitar duo of Lasagni and Varon delivers some excellent, melodic and heavy riffs n' solos.  The experience, of course, of Dennis Ward contributes to a great extend and makes "Around The World" a mandatory release.

The first three songs ("Around The World", "Standing My Ground" and "The Glory Within") are just breathtaking. As I already mentioned above, the PC69 elements are haunting the whole project but that doesn't change the thing that these songs are just awesome. Great arrangements, powerful vocals, heavy (still melodic) guitars and those melodies that makes you wanna whistle them for days. The beautiful and moodier mid-tempo of "The Highest Mountain" is yet another highlight while the 80's influenced "Jamming In The Jungle" made me turn up the volume louder!! I really liked the big groove in this one! 

Other highlights here are the excellent "The Other Side", the punchier "Heart Has Been Broken" with its killer chorus line and the fast-paced "Shout It Out". 

It seems that January comes with the first highlight of 2018! Panorama with their debut record, "Around The World", is a killer no filler hard rock album that will make some noise among the fans of this scene. KILLER!!!!

Vamos a hacer un poco de historia de esta banda surgida en 2015 por medio de Christian Palin y Sammy Lasagni que unos años antes, concretamente en 2008, se habían conocido pero no fraguaron ni tuvieron oportunidad de unirse hasta dicha fecha en donde pusieron toda la maquinaria a trabajar para realizar nada menos que 15 temas que tuvieron la suerte de enseñárselos a nada menos que Dennis Ward quien quedó impresionado y decidió no sólo producirles el disco sino incorporarse a la banda como nuevo miembro. Tras ello el álbum fue tomando forma con el tiempo en diferentes estudios hasta hoy que nos lo enseñan en primicia mientras el resto de mortales tendrá que esperar hasta 2018 para poder degustarlo. La portada me encanta ya que me recuerda a mi pequeña que empieza a cogerle el gustillo a su triciclo, a pesar de que no llegue a los pedales, dispuesta a comerse el mundo en breve.

Sin dar tiempo a sentarme en el sillón comienzan sin dilación con el tema que da título al disco “Around the world” en donde una batería machacona y potente nos pone en sobreaviso de lo que se nos avecina. Y es que el ambiente fiestero se respira en cada nota y hace que nuestras falanges comiencen a dibujar en el aire notas etéreas y volátiles como si estuviésemos componiendo la partitura del tema y Dios nos hubiese dotado de ese don del cual carecemos por completo. Puro hard rock con un gran trabajo de guitarras que hará las delicias de los seguidores de este instrumento y buena voz de Christian al que ya había seguido en la banda de Stephan Forté: Adagio, en cuyo disco “Archangels in black” de 2009 daba buena cuenta de su gran poderío en otro estilo diferente como es el progresivo.

No da tiempo a que podamos coger la postura adecuada cuando comienzan a sonar los primeros acordes de “Standing my ground” que muestra un tema a lo montaña rusa que tan pronto nos traslada a las alturas como, seguidamente, nos empuja hacia un descenso vertiginoso a modo de recrudecer el tema y ver como Eolo sopla sobre nuestra cara con una potencia tal que nos hace retroceder y clavarnos a nuestro asiento para poder establecer algo a lo que asirnos y no perder el equilibrio. Gran tema en onda Pink Cream 69, cosa que no nos debe sorprender estando el bueno de Dennis metido en el ajo.

“The glory within´” es otro de esos temas donde se deja tiempo para presentar lo que quieren que veamos y una vez sabemos a lo que nos enfrentamos dejan los preámbulos para poner toda la carne en el asador y hacer que la batería vuelva a ser el elemento determinante arropada por esa estupenda guitarra que hace las delicias de mis sentidos y una fuerza vocal que dota de contundencia al tema. 

Por fin destacan los teclados que tan tapados han estado desde el inicio en “Gates of Babylon” que es una delicia ese inicio y como va haciendo que profundicemos en él como un medio tiempo con una atmósfera envolvente que poco a poco va haciendo que se nuble y descargue ese bien que tanta falta nos hace en la actualidad. Me recuerda a un grupo español llamado IS PAIN con esos intrincados solos y desarrollos en el único disco que publicaron y que pasó con poca repercusión más por desconocimiento de la gente que por la calidad que tenía y que aún suelo ponérmelo de cuando en cuando para mi goce particular.

“The highest mountain” es ese primer amor que hace que en tus entrañas se formen sensaciones que hasta entonces no sabías que existían y que te ponen a prueba para afrontar los sinsabores que más adelantes te tocarán sufrir con el fin de que aprendas a hacerte más fuerte. Una oda al buen gusto en donde la voz se enternece a la par que la instrumentación nos ofrece una versión más acorde a un medio tiempo a caballo entre este estilo y una balada que hace aflorar mis sentimientos más sumergidos con el paso de los años.

El cachondeo continúa con “Jammin in the jungle” en donde intentan que nos mimeticemos con el entorno de la letra y viajemos a la tierra de Tarzán para sentir todos los peligros que nos acechan a cada paso. Un tema al que no acabo de coger el punto aunque no deja de ser un tema directo y que hace que la fiesta continúe.

Ufff como me encantan esas intros que me hacen dar hacia atrás para volver a oírlas infinitas veces y “One for all” tiene una de ellas que además se acompaña por un destello de eficiencia musical a lo largo de todo el tema aunque me mata que no tenga ese estribillo demoledor que haría que subiera algo mi autoestima a la par que las notas acariciarían mi bulbo raquídeo. Pero simplemente llegan a mi cerebro pero éste no sabe procesarlas como debiera debido a que le falta ese empujoncito final.

Me hartaré de decir que musicalmente es una gozada de cabo a rabo pero peca un poco más que en los desarrollos en meterle ese remate final para dar el golpe definitivo que derribe el muro. Y eso mismo ocurre con “The other side” en donde van atizando a la pared con un martillo y saltan trozos de ladrillo pero no acaban de dar el golpe maestro que la derribe y simplemente van haciendo que las esquirlas salten por toda la habitación al ritmo que marcan. Otro gran tema muy efectivo y directo.

“Heart has been broken” sigue la senda del anterior aunque aquí se ve más la vertiente melódica y tiene un solo de campeonato que me hace seguir disfrutando de muy buenas vibraciones a la par que sus efluvios se van introduciendo más profundamente en mi piel, erizándome el vello y provocando que mis sensaciones se vayan exteriorizando a cada nota sobre esa partitura que se dibuja en mi mente.

El tema más directo quizás sea “Shout it out” donde la velocidad es la nota predominante sin dejar más espacio al aburrimiento ni a la desazón. Puñetazo directo que te despierta como ese objeto inmundo que tiene como misión darnos los “buenos días” de lunes a sábado.

Vamos acabando ya con “World on fire” que es otra velocidad más a este proyecto para hacer que el motor se estire aún más y permita que las ruedas se agarren al asfalto como cuando asimos con fuerza la mano de nuestros pequeños evitando que se puedan dar un golpe contra el suelo. Quizás no es el mejor tema para culminar pero no baja tampoco la dinámica.

En resumen; un disco que me ha gustado mucho ya que es puro derroche de energía y buen hacer y además muy fiestero por lo que no da tiempo al aburrimiento ni a decaer cosa que en estos días se agradece sobremanera por todo lo que nos rodea y que vemos y escuchamos en la tele y radio respectivamente. Dadle una escucha que no os va a defraudar.
